Liar, Liar, World On Fire

Liar, Liar, World On Fire

A Poem by Pete
"

If I put my head deliberately into the fire, there is no appeal to fire or to the maker of fire, and I have only myself to blame. - Thoreau

"
We still don't really know what's inside the sun

full throttle
someone let the genie out of the bottle
if you can find him, go ask aristotle

this world is overcrowded
there's not enough room anymore
it's getting smaller everyday
every minute
every second
every eternity
in a twisted modernity and lonely fraternity

with my body bruised and scarred
heart and soul broken and marred
i dug a hole in my back yard
it must have gone down about a mile
someone from china climbed out with a panoptic smile
telling me that my new sneakers from amazon would be ready to ship in a little while

when you die
take some time to look down from the sky
everything's on fire
everything's burning under the sun
in an incendiary world that's come undone
a situation dire
all it takes is a single, errant spark to start a funeral pyre
just look it straight in the eye and inquire
see what will transpire as you sweat and perspire
you'll go blind as you realize that
the world has become nothing but a damned, bald-faced liar

Author's Note

Pete
"My friend is one who takes me for what I am. A stranger takes me for something else than what I am. . . . What men call social virtues, good fellowship, is commonly but the virtue of pigs in a litter which lie close together to keep each other warm. It brings men together in crowds and mobs in bar-rooms and elsewhere, but it does not deserve the name of virtue." - Thoreau

I believe God had forgotten and the Devil is unemployed. Men create enough hate and violence with no help. The poem is outstanding Pete.

Unfortunately something has to give Pete , it's unsustainable and only the strong may survive. Yes they say money is the root of all evil and the Church continues to ask for it. Hmmh!

I look up to the sky and want to go there because it is not fun down here with all that is happening...but if I were up there I would be looking down at the mess.
the hole in the yard...connecting to China...amusing part of the poem.
I built an igloo in my back yard in 1968...it lasted three weeks...and was cozy...
but sooner or later in melted...so I had no refuge from the cold.
This world is so cold now, I want to set it on fire....melt it.
Find some peace before I die.
Your poem is inspiring me....my pen is stirring.
Thank you for your thought provoking poetry, Pete.

I really loved this, and great song choice too!
Your poem perfectly reflects the chaos, loneliness, and deception, using vivid imagery to convey a sense of urgency and disillusionment.

I love this stanza that has a bit of humor added in. Hole to China and shoes from Amazon.

In reality the shoes we wear, the car we drive and all the material things don’t mean anything in the grand scheme of eternity
