Maynard Life Outdoors and Hidden History of Maynard: Assabet River - a No Flood Year

hardly what you'd call lame
this sneaker-less river that runs past me
sweating last week's snow
shaking off yesterday's rain
carrying a sleepy town's sins and pain
all remnants and traces
challenging me to a race of disdain
i'd best just leave it be
at least until i have a chance to bend down and tie my laces

Pete
"He who sits still in a house all the time may be the greatest vagrant of all; but the saunterer, in the good sense, is no more vagrant than the meandering river, which is all the while sedulously seeking the shortest course to the sea." - Thoreau
