Ill-Natured

Ill-Natured

A Poem by Pete
"

One must maintain a little bittle of summer, even in the middle of winter. - Thoreau

"
See Why Thoreau's Walden Still Inspires
Walden Pond

terrain slumbering under bloodless layers of hoarfrost blankets
overhearing the garrulous gossip of old, crusted snow 'neath my pensive feet
permeating my core with its blanched, embalmed frigidity
testifying to a stark, chilling, frostbitten truth
rooted only in the present for what seems like a shivering eternity
i can't help but wonder if this is the anemic season that was foretold

Author's Note

Pete
"The warmth comes directly from the sun, and is not radiated from the earth, as in summer; and when we feel his beams on our backs as we are treading some snowy dell, we are grateful as for a special kindness, and bless the sun which has followed us into that by-place." - Thoreau

the truth is that we have to bear this frigidity, as we have done under "hoarfrost blankets" this freezing season, which comes every year, and brings back memories of other frosty winters....when will this anemic season end...we know it comes every year, but we may see it differently as we age....the only blessing here is the sun .....from above
