Drenched Or Dry (Tell me)

Drenched Or Dry (Tell me)

A Poem by Pete
"

The forests are held cheap after the white pine has been culled out; and the explorers and hunters pray for rain only to clear the atmosphere of smoke. - Thoreau

tell me

who cries for the rain
knows its pain
bandages its sprain
lends it a cane
heals its disdain
spitting its frigid forms, no two the same

tell me

who picks its brain
skews its aim
steers its out-of-control train
flushes its flooding remnants down the drain
easing its bane
covering its shame
letting it lean when its lame

causing my sunned and showered flesh to age whilst my soul stays the same

tell me

what's his name

disclaim or proclaim

take careful aim

please explain

Author's Note

Pete
"The gentle rain which waters my beans and keeps me in the house today is not dreary and melancholy, but good for me too. Though it prevents my hoeing them, it is of far more worth than my hoeing. If it should continue so long as to cause the seeds to rot in the ground and destroy the potatoes in the low lands, it would still be good for the grass on the uplands, and, being good for the grass, would be good for me, too." - Thoreau

All good gifts around us are sent from God above. Remember that hymn? I used to sing it with gusto. Your poem made me reflect on areas that gave drought while some have floods. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the rain falling fairly on the plain? The Thames has burst its banks and there is water everywhere. But climate change is now the news of most days. Enjoyed my visit Pete.
