Learning To Float

Life is a battle in which you are to show your pluck, and woe be to the coward. - Thoreau

adrift
still carrying the tarnished, double-edged sword for the dragons i once smote
trying to repeat wisdom of the past that i feel obliged to quote
i keep trying to cross a castle-less moat
but i'm weary and there's a hole in my boat
there must be a higher ground to stand upon in order to gloat

no matter where i go
no matter what i do
thinking i know where i'm headed when i really have no clue
the sails i hoist blown by winds that gasp taboo
tomorrow's hands clutched firmly around my throat
perhaps one day i'll take the easy route
and simply

learn to float
