Poem (Life) In A Bottle

Poem (Life) In A Bottle

A Poem by Pete
"

My life has been the poem I would have writ but I could not both live and utter it. - Thoreau

you wanted poetry
so i bled you the ink
suffering the stanzas
dripping allusions' implicit sweat
bestowing a sonnet's iambic couplet
exhaling spent meter and rhyme
not once but all the time

my soul the title
my life a personified idea
a heart beating with onomatopeia
never troubling yourself to comb my shore
thinking me nothing more than a simple metaphor
my existence a mere simile
you didn't even bother to read me
stuffed in a corked bottle

forever lost at sea

Author's Note

Pete
"Yet poetry, though the last and finest result, is a natural fruit. As naturally as the oak bears an acorn, and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. It is the chief and most memorable success, for history is but a prose narrative of poetic deeds." - Thoreau

Though someday that bottle might just wash up on shore and be found by someone who appreciates poetry and at that point it will have been worth writing it. Nice one my friend.
