No SurpriseA Poem by PeteThe mason asks but a narrow shelf to spring his brick from; man requires only an infinitely narrower one to spring his arch of faith from. - Thoreausin overtakes evil overrates doubt trembles and shakes righteousness tries like a lawyers' compromise forgive me tired of living life in disguiseuncomfortably adorned with the garb of lies some day i want to look god straight in the eyes wanting him to answer my cries after my spent, weary body dies before a way my soul does devise like lazarus made to rise please advise lift me up beyond wrapped skies turn back time counterclockwise don't make me agonize truth's eternity the prize plunge me in a font of tears welcome me so that i am baptized pray me what heaven's song supplies grant me all that the good book implies judge me according to what faith buys by what a loving, forgiving heart testifies that way when i breathe my last there won't be any surprise .
