It's Raining

It's Raining

A Poem by Pete
"

A single gentle rain makes the grass many shades greener. - Thoreau

it's raining
drizzle its kin
someone made it begin
the earth is drinking it in
quenching its thirst
doing its laundry
the grass is green once more
jaundice taking it on the chin
not remembering but since when is that a sin

folks have altered their plans
the past is paining
the future waning
clouds are straining
gutters draining
children complaining
thoughts ingraining
tomorrow will never come
the sun will never shine again

tears are staining
hearts feigning
waterways gaining
patience in training
time waning
reason struggling and straining
plenty of time but no source for explaining

and to think

all of this

simply because

someone said

it's raining

Author's Note

Pete
"The gentle rain which waters my beans and keeps me in the house today is not drear and melancholy, but good for me too. Though it prevents my hoeing them, it is of far more worth than my hoeing. If it should continue so long as to cause the seeds to rot in the ground and destroy the potatoes in the low lands, it would still be good for the grass on the uplands, and, being good for the grass, would be good for me, too." - Thoreau

It can rain droplets which are nourishing to men and soil, or it can rain cats and dogs which causes flooding and other issues. Glaciers are melting slowly and that is very dangerous. Beware, coastal places for it is coming.

Where I live there is nothing more beautiful than a mountain in the rain. There should be a word for that feeling. Someone should write a poem about it. That would be extraordinary. Oh some one has and it is.

The rain may prevent us from doing some of the things we planned to do, however it is a friend rather than a foe. Without it we would have drought and we all know the devastation that can cause. Love this descriptive refreshing write Pete. I love the sweetness in the air after a downpour. A cleansing has taken place. All good wishes.
