In God We Trust?

In God We Trust?

A Poem by Pete
"

When the true criminals are running around free, the only honorable place for a decent human being is in prisons. - Thoreau

"
From coins to national motto: How

lock me up
throw away the key
there's nothing you can take from me

what i value most are the things that no eye can see
things that don't open or start with a key
things that are only uttered 'pon bended knee
things crossed in three

so go ahead
do whatever you like with me
we don't have to agree
but make no mistake about it
i know what it is to be truly free
to have an epiphany
for happiness not to be left up to serendipity

shackles may rust
people may cuss
the country can go bust
ashes to ashes and dust to dust

in god we trust

Author's Note

Pete
"The preachers and lecturers deal with men of straw, as they are men of straw themselves. Why, a free-spoken man, of sound lungs, cannot draw a long breath without causing your rotten institutions to come toppling down by the vacuum he makes. Your church is a baby-house made of blocks, and so of the state....The church, the state, the school, the magazine, think they are liberal and free! It is the freedom of a prison-yard." - Thoreau
