Horn O' Plenty

Horn O' Plenty

A Poem by Pete

The Story of the Cornucopia: The Thanksgiving Horn of Plenty

cornucopia
utopia
myopia
what morning sings
what tomorrow promises compared to what today brings
perhaps one or maybe a plethora of things
a shiny penny
a tarnished many

bees may sting
faithless mouths buzz
as truth shaves adolescent peach fuzz
emotions swell
all's good
even that which does not end well

play your piano
be sure to hit all the notes and keys
both good and bad
happy and sad
show me all that it blindly sees
pluck the wayward strings of chance's braille strings
along with all that it gladly or reluctantly brings

we don't truly know until we try
don't really care until we cry
the best questions always start with why
remembering that you can't return what you didn't buy
can't cross the finish line tape
can't experience grace
unless you lace up sneakers
unless you run the race

show me your bleeding heart
show me what's deep inside
knock down your aquifer
releasing stagnant tears
shuddering unfounded fears
before a desolate today turns into
a horn of forelorn years

Well, I would have commented sooner but I got caught up in the music which really brought this afternoon together for me. Nice choice my friend now your poem...definitely a cornucopia of thoughts and visions, a horn of plenty and much more than that. Oh I do play my piano, the good keys and the bad, though even the bad can sound pretty damn sexy. Nicely done...all the way around the horn.
