Not-So-Secret MissionA Poem by PeteThey were pleasant spring days, in which the winter of man's discontent was thawing as well as the earth, and the life that had lain torpid began to stretch itself. - Thoreauback to base in cleared air space returning from temporary leave nearly impossible to conceive the tall pines still stood at attention everything else slouching under the drunken weight of a duffle bag of new blossoms seeking neither medals nor promotion from a grateful nation as yet another spring blew its whistle and called formation locked and loaded anticipated but surreptitiously coded still saluting new beginnings boarding the train at a crowded but secret station in the brave, swollen, missioned ranks of creation © 2023 Pete
