Eschew And Do

Eschew And Do

A Poem by Pete
"

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. - Thoreau

"
Creation & The Serpent Power - Universal Life Church

when cell phones glow, headphones vibrate and earbuds whisper
when eden's sweet fruit sits locked in a sour vegetable crisper
lost in muted remnants of unspoken truth
golden crown or chipped tooth
smeared with the thick mud of reason
hobbling on broken crutches of illicit treason
ushered to yet another empty seat of dried tears in a thawed but swollen season

behind dawn's royal, velvet curtain
cross-examined, sworn and nearly certain
inevitable winds blew
leaving the bad breath of yet another lie freezin'
unable to differentiate 'tween fleshly cries and soulful boo hoo
planted evidence and uprooted clue
as inescapable time reveals what it once knew
not only what we cowardly accept but

what we courageously eschew and boldly do
