Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow And Forever

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow And Forever

A Poem by Pete
"

... as the willow stands near the water and sends out its roots in that direction ... - Thoreau

"
Salix alba Morton.jpg

with a curious, unquenchable thirst
draped in a vernal, prayer shawl of sorrow
living on the edge of instinctive sudor
with its much-sought-after, pendulous canopy of nectar
the willow wept in a drooping quandry of silence

in a seeming inebriation of innate reason
roots drinking its own tears through a straw of days numbered
as it bent down to try and pick up broken pieces of yesterday
its curved, stubborn caudal unwittingly shading today from tomorrow
whilst sipping memories of aliveness forever

Author's Note

Pete
"I have penetrated to those meadows on the morning of many a first spring day, jumping from hummock to hummock, from willow root to willow root, when the wild river valley and the woods were bathed in so pure and bright a light as would have waked the dead, if they had been slumbering in their graves, as some suppose." - Thoreau

The willow tree is my favorite Pete. They appear reaching and dancing for the sky. I have many near a small lake. I like to sit with them and think. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
We have to protect ourselves from the past, spend the present wisely and look for looming signs of the future. I like how you compare time to roots spreading in all directions.
You are competing with your muse now................
