when the floors creek and the storm gutters leak
when old flames play hide and seek

when my pillow is wet with the dew of morning's lonely tears
when a drawer full of yellowed calendars with x's through all of the days mark the manufactured years

when old memories can barely find their way in a pea soup, london fog
when weary legs are too old to run and an arrhythmic heart too sad to jog

when a tender touch is merely a figment of dreams
when seasons hide incognito in an overcoat's frayed seams

when day shivers and night sweats
when my grave is littered with soggy coffee cups and spent cigarettes

when i can't remember all the places my heart's been

tell me

who'll love me then
