Postpartum

Postpartum

A Poem by Pete
"

We are ever dying to one world and being born into another. - Thoreau

"
SULLIVAN, JIM - IF THE EVENING WERE DAWN (LP) | CLEAR SPOT

in a lucullan filiation of eternity
an unequivocal nascency of existence
the seed of yet another immaculate conception was planted

an undeniable gestation of truth
the copulation of a capricious creation
a dawn of divinity
strained with the stretchmarks of faith

bearing down with the labor pains of latent prayers
the night was barefoot and pregnant with a new day

breech or fully within reach

what can i say

you know the way

"the night was barefoot and pregnant with a new day" especially like that line. had to go a-googlin' Pete! the flow, emotion and imaging would be much smoother had i a better vocabulary .. so thank you for some really great words ... "..lucullan filiation" and ".. unequivocal nascency .." packed full they are! .. the deep vein of Faith .. a sense of sarcasm and irony for me .. (closing 3 lines) ... and this "strained with the stretchmarks of faith" so relatable for anyone who tries Faith ;) deeply inspirational ... great language .. glad i did not miss this one sir!

ps. great pic too ... our paths of truth finding can be a lonesome and soulful place :)

What I like best about Thoreau... is that he realizes we need to grow in Spirit in life...
and in doing so... we pass from one Season to the next... realizing our mistakes, and thus...
we die... and are born again... according to Nature... we change for the Better. some people are not willing or capable of forgiveness. truly, Pat

Channeling the conception of birth with the reference to Thoreau, really amplifies your choice of vocabulary here. The impact it leaves upon your reader is within a realm all its own, but then again, so are you!

the night was barefoot and pregnant with a new day." I loved this line as well. The existence beneath the surface of such prayers while the night is heavy with future birth. That's a impressive line. Throughout the poem the speaker dwells in the absolute truths of what life nuances provides such as death. But Birth is more shocking than death cause of our sudden recognition. Alan Watts said once " The only way to make sense of change is to plunge into it, move with it, join the dance." Keep dancing sir and writing sincerely your friend in poetry and life

Wow Pete you have used some great vocabulary here in this write. Also noticed some sharp alliteration and I enjoyed the language you used relating to birth. Always a pleasure to read you and to regard the great quotes of Thoreau. Nature is never far from my mind and I sincerely hope it is reflected in my soul. All good wishes.

Yes siiiirrrr. You are welcome...
I love how you use many uncommon expressions relating to birth, yet this doesn't come across as "birth-like" at all . . . but rather as labor pains for those who put in some effort to evolve. The second verse is totally popping with clever & artful wordcrafting, esp: "strained with the stretchmarks of faith" -- which shows off your excellent alliteration, which is never overdone or purposeless. Your word choices are always for meaning & the alliteration being a nice by-product of what you mean to say (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
