Blind Man Gruff

Blind Man Gruff

A Poem by Pete
"

‘Tis healthy to be sick sometimes. - Thoreau

"
About | The decapitation of the narrator

searching for the gumption to forgive

is it burning in a candle's wick?
blown into stained glass by beatified breath?
in a spineless, black book in a pew?
stumbling in the dark, black and blue?
what should i do?

yesterday's feast is today's crumbs
tomorrow eternally comes
i've always been afraid of the dark
strangers in the park
and a missing question mark

perhaps it's under a sofa cushion
along with the remote, lint and other loose change
maybe it lies at the bottom of a cranky, crippling creek along with the other fool's gold

i hope i find it

before i get too damned old

before my soul is sold

before i'm forced to remove the blindfold

I love your playful tongue-in-cheek search for "whatever"! I've been reading a fair number of poems at the cafe that attempt to describe or analyze life/death & I honestly don't think about it much. Your poem seems a lighthearted & subtle spoof on those who get worked up about accomplishing "whatever" before death snatches that bucket list & throws it in the fire. Many snappy thought-provoking well-crafted phrases thru-out (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I feel you are saying that many people are blindfolded willfully or forcefully. We sure tend to go through life with twisted or unclear perspectives looking for even candles if not the sun to see at the end of the tunnel. We must see clearly and let go of so many misconceptions. Excellent sir.
