The virtue of making two blades of grass grow where only one grew before does not begin to be superhuman. - Thoreau

Tall Grass Blowing In The Wind Photograph by Peter McCabe

i know the tall grass will bend
tears shed and dried

hearts will break and heal
legs weak as they curl and kneel
so much to absorb and feel

the wind will usher unmitigated truth in bold perpetuity

forevermore
clenched fists will knock at heaven's door

we'll dance
at each day's sacred chance

i don't know which way destiny will veer
until fate is near

i don't know much

but this i know

Author's Note

Pete
"We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us, like the grass which confesses the influence of the slightest dew that falls on it; and did not spend our time in atoning for the neglect of past opportunities, which we call doing our duty." - Thoreau
