it takes but a small incision

a hollow needle

a sharp eye

an empty book

and most importantly

knowing where to look

I had to sit & think a while about how your metaphor resonates for me. There are those who are too fearful to dig deeply into life & so, to me, it seems their experience might be a little shallow. Also, about writers, I believe we must have the courage to dig down & be utterly self-honest & revealing to reach our finest writing. you are spot-on about my intention with this piece - couldn't have said it better myself. it takes effort and going off the beaten path - most of us are too afraid to go there and do that. thanks for not being afraid to share thoughts and feelings ... :)
