Sewage Treatment Plant

Sewage Treatment Plant

A Poem by Pete
"

Hope and the future for me are not in lawns and cultivated fields, not in towns and cities, but in the impervious and quaking swamps. - Thoreau

"
Thieves Are Stealing Manhole Covers - The New York Times

depression washed over him like effluent
the sludge of a sadistic thief

even sewers empty somewhere
their covers can be lifted

no one dares look 'til they have to
but they're there

music and hope are porta-potties

they keep us moving

no matter

As a bipolar person, I've been depressed half my life & it can be very much like sludge. I'm intrigued by your title, which drew me in, but I didn't feel much of a connection between your title & your poem (not a good or bad thing, just an observation), altho I love both. I'm most reminded of those super strong type A personalities who never show any weakness all thru the years of attaining this & that, but then depression hits later in life & they crumble like a tower, but there are good aspects, as your poem suggests, in that they lift off the lid & take an honest look becuz they are forced to (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
