Cheerio

Cheerio

A Poem by Pete
"

Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads. - Thoreau

Morning dew | Early morning garden light . | Galway Pete | Flickr

earnestly
brazenly
gallantly
floating above faith's morning dew
into oblivion's creed

don't bother looking back
you'll get a crick in your neck

labored in obscurity
the flutist ushers in a new day
the bagpiper having the last say
every which way

get in line
declare victory
capture this fleeting time
breathe the now
live the spirit of eternity

a sweet song lingering on your loyal, dying breath
pinned with the medals of truth and honor
saluted by what is good and right
as your ship pulls into the dock of heaven and tethers
steadfast
forever

Author's Note

Pete
"I long for wildness, a nature which I cannot put my foot through, woods where the wood thrush forever sings, where the hours are early morning ones, and there is dew on the grass, and the day is forever unproved, where I might have a fertile unknown for a soil about me." - Thoreau

I'm not quite sure how this connection was made in my head, from your poem to this idea, but I'm reminded of a recent effort of mine to call out friends on Facebook who post ridiculous memes only meant to harbor discord & hate. Not joining in to the argument over issues, but just asking, "don't you have anything positive to say about people or life?" It's amazing how this stops people in their tracks, rather than pumping up the never-ending back-and-forths you often see with everyone piling on to tear others down. Your poem seems like the lyrical way to say all that . . . just tell me what makes your heart sing & don't let the issues paint you ugly! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
