Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. - Thoreau

Everyday I argue with him.
In bare feet.
With dependent soul.
Demanding to know.
How i's get dotted and t's crossed.
How he always knows the way and I get lost.
Why there's a period at the end of his sentences.
Sometimes exclamation points.

Back and forth.
On and on it goes.
 Getting me nowhere.
The verdict always guilty.
Inextricably entwined with faith.
Same as it ever was.
Reason never holding up.
Logic somehow flawed.
Always coming down to his same response -
"Because I'm God ..."

Author's Note

Pete
“God himself culminates in the present moment, and will never be more divine in the lapse of all the ages. And we are enabled to apprehend at all what is sublime and noble only by the perpetual instilling and drenching of the reality which surrounds us. The universe constantly and obediently answers to our conceptions; whether we travel fast or slow, the track is laid for us.” - Thoreau
