The church is the place where prayers and sermons are delivered, but the tavern is where they are to take effect, and if the former are good, the latter cannot be bad. - Thoreau
A cold, winter rain falls 'pon the flesh of the city.
No eyes to look at stained glass and candles.
No ears to hear a good word.
The spire of a leafless tree stands alone, reaching up for Heaven.
"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell. God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars. Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." - Thoreau

Nature instructs us on humility and gratitude, and that’s what I read here, Pete. I’m grounded when outside, walking among the naked trees and shriveled flowers. And, I appreciate more the gifts God has granted, not the material things as much everything outside my reach and humility. A very good work, Pete. Great poem and image.
