Curtain Call

Curtain Call

A Poem by Pete

I have thought there was some advantage even in death, by which we mingle with the herd of common men. - Thoreau

Image result for man peeking out from behind a curtain

Naked in a frozen season.
Clinging to illogic and shunning reason.
Commiting tempestuous high treason.
Capturing all the darkness of a full, solar eclipse.
Trying to speak unacceptable truth with parched lips.
Setting fire to fate's tainted manuscripts.
Pinned with the corsage of yesterday's lie.
My face follows the sun as it moves across the sky.
A futile attempt to stay warm and dry.

Trying to capture this empty feeling.
My body paralyzed and my nuclear core reeling.
Bumping my head on this earthly ceiling.
Trembling fingers hover over a kabbalistic keyboard.
Not cutting it.
A broken heart can only abutt it.
Acting out this undesired skit.
How do you write tears upon a page?
Pen the blood of a sage?
Bare a soul on life's stage?
Capturing the breath of emotional ...
... outrage ...

Author's Note

Pete
"Do not despair of life. You have no doubt force enough to overcome your obstacles. Think of the fox prowling through wood and field in a winter night for something to satisfy his hunger. Notwithstanding cold and the hounds and traps, his race survives. I do not believe any of them ever committed suicide." - Thoreau
