Seasonal Changes

Seasonal Changes

A Poem by Pete
"

Take long walks in stormy weather or through deep snows in the fields and woods, if you would keep your spirits up. Deal with brute nature. Be cold and hungry and weary. - Thoreau

We've weathered storms before.
Our undying love lined and gloved.
As push came to shove.
Mutual affection rolled up in a woolen hat.
That's that.
Muffs deafened our ears.
Erasing cardiac fears.
Let it snow.
Let our ventricles go cold.
Let it rain.
Let separation's tears bring forth their pain.
We don't need a reason.
It's only for a season.
Let it all turn to slush.
It's okay.
You turn my heart to mush ...

Author's Note

Pete
“Let us settle ourselves, and work and wedge our feet downwards through the mud and slush of opinion and tradition, and pride and prejudice, appearance and delusion, through the alluvium which covers the globe, through poetry and philosophy and religion, through church and state, through Paris and London, through New York and Boston and Concord, till we come to a hard bottom that rocks in place which we can call reality and say, "This is and no mistake.” - Thoreau
