Oh Well

Oh Well

A Poem by Pete

Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. - Thoreau

Everyday.
God holds me prisoner.
Forcing me to see things I don't want to see.
And be what I don't want to be.
Sustained only by the spring of truth's well.
Just beyond the reach of Hell.
Without rhyme or reason.
I commit spiritual treason.
Please make him stop before I change too much and don't know myself anymore.
As he holds open life's trap door and
Heaven keeps a hard-luck score ...

Author's Note

Pete
"The cost of a thing is the amount of what I will call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run. Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake. Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth." - Thoreau
