If within the sophisticated man there is not an unsophisticated one, then he is but one of the devil's angels. - Thoreau

A zero-proof, ecclesiastical life-preserver.
Not just a casual observer.
He came into my life like a wonderful-life, Clarence knock-off.
With a death-rattling, vaping cough.
Drinking red-hot, cinnamon Fireballs in the park.
Whenever the sky grew dark.
Scratching lottery tickets with worn-down, chewed fingernails.
Oblivious to a spirit that fails.
That's who God sent
and Heaven lent
to pay ...
... Hell's rent ...

I really like the rough, hardened yet very aware tone this piece displays.
