Shangri-Ah

Heaven might be defined as the place which men avoid. - Thoreau

Rolling life's loaded dice.
In search of an elusive paradise.
Seeking a paramount utopia.
Blowing the surreal horn of cornucopia.
With bald tires.
Low on fuel.
Thinking it cool.
Without hesitation.
Let alone a reservation.
I travel oh-so far.
To get to Shangri-La.

Mistakenly thinking that it takes lots of money.
I arrive poor with the sky sunny.
Skipping formality.
Apart from reality.
Faith's ship is docked.
But the gate is locked.
Searching for a bold, convincing reason.
I beg and plead.
But the sign simply reads ...
... closed for the season ...

Awww, I felt like I was on an adventure just to run into disappointment. Very much like life, I think, living is an adventure with wonderful ideas that get shot down with stumbling blocks. We have to go around or burst through and travel on. There's got to be more than one paradise, right? I saw in my mind's eye, a very disappointed man standing at a rusty gate, holding the bars, his forehead pressed against it, looking beyond at a beautiful unusual looking ship that would have taken him to a wonderful new world. What a wonderful poem, Pete. I loved it and I needed it. (yes, I live in a fantasy world and apply everything in that perspective. At my age, I find reality a little too harsh. Fantasy is better. Reality is like doing time.)
