Allman Bros = lifetime favorite . . . "whippin' post" = I've soooo been there! (Haven't we all?) When I wrote my book "I'm No Angel" describing mom's non-response to childhood raping, I explained mom had been raped herself & HER mom (my grandmother, I never knew) gave mom the worst treatment in response to alleging that her mom's boyfriend had raped her. Mom didn't have any example of a mom standing up for her kids, since her mom did just the opposite (stood up for the rapist). These kinds of examples abound, as I'm sure you know. Your poem is unusually brief (for you) & that makes it even more impactful, that you poured so much into it, it literally reverberates with what you're saying without saying (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

as i'm sure you know, greg died a couple of years ago, liver cancer and heart problems i believe. .. read moreas i'm sure you know, greg died a couple of years ago, liver cancer and heart problems i believe. "I'm No Angel" is one of my all-time favorite songs, not to mention 'whipping post' and 'one way out' mom was the unequivocal boss of everything, a controlling hoarder. consistent with what you point out, my father sat by and did nothing. one time i even remember him calling out (from his favorite living room recliner), "don't you think they've had enough?" he would just shake his head and say, "she's sick". he spent a lifetime coddling her and making excuses for her behaviors. my dad just recently passed and mom is in an assisted living. i occasionally visit her when i can screw a smile on my face and pretend everything is ok. i would have used a different letter for the 's' in the title but you know - must keep up appearances for the youngins. (HUGS) Margie as i wipe the damned tears from my eyes ... :)
