I Swear

I Swear

A Poem by Pete
"

The birds I heard today, which, fortunately, did not come within the scope of my science, sang as freshly as if it had been the first morning of creation. - Thoreau

God talks to lonely, hurting people.
From atop railings down by the water.
Offering a way out in the sea and the air.
He does.
Really.
I swear ...

Author's Note

Pete
“There is some of the same fitness in a man's building his own house that there is in a bird's building its own nest. Who knows but if men constructed their dwellings with their own hands, and provided food for themselves and families simply and honestly enough, the poetic faculty would be universally developed, as birds universally sing when they are so engaged? But alas! we do like cowbirds and cuckoos, which lay their eggs in nests which other birds have built, and cheer no traveller with their chattering and unmusical notes. Shall we forever resign the pleasure of construction to the carpenter?” - Thoreau

And how well I know this also. I lived by the ocean for fifteen years and I would swear I could hear voices in the waves, from gulls flying above, in wind blowing the sea oats. All things wonderful and beautiful are the touches of our maker. I can vouch that He takes extra care and time with those of us needing it. He's the most comforting company all the time, but especially when there's no one else.
