“When the heavens are obscured to us, and nothing noble or heroic appears, but we are oppressed by imperfection and shortcoming on all hands, we are apt to suck our thumbs and decry our fates. As if nothing were to be done in cloudy weather, or, if heaven were not accessible by the upper road, men would not find out a lower... There are two ways to victory, - to strive bravely, or to yield. How much pain the last will save we have not yet learned.” - Thoreau

Sometimes we need cloudy days to reflect our moods. I don't want to feel moody in sunshine. I would rather it be when the clouds are swirling and morphing into strange shapes, growing darker by the minute as a storm looms. Clouds can be quite exhilarating to look at, particularly their movement and the speed at which they move. Beautifully expressed lines here Pete. I like being at one with nature. That's where your lines took me. All good wishes.

thanks chris. i like your thoughts. couldn't imagine life without diverse nature ... :)
I love gazing at the clouds and at the rain...especially if I have a lot weighing on my mind. We can give into the darkness when it is raining and cloudy so I suppose it serves a purpose. Great quote from Thoreau. Lydi**

After an unusually mild summer, we are already getting cloudy autumn with a feel of imaginary (so far) raindrops in mid-Sept! (early for us!) I'm so ready for rainy days! Bring 'em on! I love how the first part of your poem feels like an invitation to goof off & dance away with "rain" as one's excuse. Then your 2-line bridge is interesting -- causing me to stop & re-think ("life/strife"). Then you end your poem with abstract writing that seems to represent the chaotic strife one might wish to escape, upon scampering away on a raindrop day! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love rainy days. I even love storms. Gets my imagination whirling and the strangest things form. Looking at the sky is the first thing I do when stepping outside, especially in late evening. Dusk and dawn draws the most beautiful paintings with clouds and colors. I find solace alone on grey days, or with the one who holds my heart in his hands. To be home with the one I love and loves me, by a fire during the storm, gives me the feeling of warmth, security and easy love.
Ah, the places your poems take me----only memories now. But it's nice to visit now and again.

I prefer a cloudy day to a sunny one, actually. Especially if the weather is cooler. I think people become too dependent on a sunny day to make everything better for them, when its entirely upon ourselves.
