Final Act

Final Act

A Poem by Pete
"

We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success. - Thoreau

Buy or rent?
Don't eat meat on Fridays during lent.
You catch more flies with sticky sweet honey.
That also works with a boatload of money.
You'll meet a plethora of philosphers in a homeless shelter.
They'll stoke your dreams like a summer swelter.
Subways run underground for a reason.
You don't know who's loyal 'til someone commits treason.
A lost soul once said, "I think, therefore I am."
Maybe it was the hotheaded, dead king of Siam.
He died of malaria.
In a fevered, quarantined area.
You can't change if you don't know what you're wearin'.
With earbuds in your dead head and music blarin'.

Flipped upside down could be right side up.
Is it half empty or half full, that which floats in your cup?
'What's good for the goose is good for the gander.'
I've often wondered if that includes slander.
Whoever said, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
Is the same one who, every winter, rides bareback south.
People who talk to empty skulls are a few bricks shy of a full load.
No doubt walking down the wrong road.
When you look in the mirror, what is it that you don't see?
Which came first, coffee or tea?
The one who gets to drive is the one who holds the key.
Be sure to fill up your soliloquy.
More importantly,
"To be or not to be."
That is the question.
In a great depression.
For you and me.
From sea ...
... to polluted sea ...

Author's Note

Pete
“You shall see rude and sturdy, experienced and wise men, keeping their castles, or teaming up their summer’s wood, or chopping alone in the woods, men fuller of talk and rare adventure in the sun and wind and rain, than a chestnut is of meat; who were out not only in ‘75 and 1812, but have been out every day of their lives; greater men than Homer, or Chaucer, or Shakespeare, only they never got time to say so; they never took to the way of writing. Look at their fields, and imagine what they might write, if ever they should put pen to paper. Or what have they not written on the face of the earth already, clearing, and burning, and scratching, and harrowing, and plowing, and subsoiling, in and in, and out and out, and over and over, again and again, erasing what they had already written for want of parchment.” - Thoreau

I feel from this wonderful message that the messenger wants us to tread carefully, to have a balance in trust, to see things in new light. We need to discern things clearly, hope for the best and fight the good fight. Some trivial things in life can make life miserable to trivial people. A wonderful message sir.
