Armed Robbery

Armed Robbery

A Poem by Pete
"

When you don't care and just want to be with that person no matter what.

Erte (Romain De Tirtoff) "Prisoner of Love" Bronze

Upended.
Apprehended.
Shackled.
Like a quarterback tackled.
Incarcerated.
Our cases eloquently stated.
You and me.
Copping an innocent plea.
Tied together forever on a chain gang.
Our mutual adoration going out not with a whimper but an automatic bang.

We baked our files into a cake.
With a crafty, undeniable, loving jailbreak.
Making the earth shake.
And our souls quake.
Our illicit devotion stole away.
Not for a night but an oasis day.
Pilfering passion.
Pickpocketing patience.
Robbing reason.
Victims of denial's treason.

The hung jury deliberated for what seemed like forever.
But our defense was clever.
A verdict was handed down by a lissome liaison.
Guilty on all counts.
Without the annoying headcounts.
Like Bonnie and Clyde.
No longer having to hide.
Our commitment playing upon the high court's jobbery.
Thank Heaven we were locked up for committing that ...
... armed robbery ...

Author's Note

Pete
"Why the jailer does not leave open his prison doors,--why the judge does not dismiss his case,--why the preacher does not dismiss his congregation! It is because they do not obey the hint God gives them, nor accept the pardon which he freely offers to all." - Thoreau

relatable to be sure ... capture ... then held captive .. its just not fair i tell ya! lots of poetic tooling that delights in reading .. "We baked our files into a cake." clever sir Pete :) metaphor held to the end ..Bonnie and Clyde in gruesome romantic death grip .. caught with their pants down .. no need for defense .. locked up ... and who knows ... maybe still loaded :) great read for me .. strong work says i!

i like the metaphors here, especially the main one carried throughout...
I was humming "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" while reading...remembering the chase scene in the movie when Clyde stole the car...
great pace in this piece, really rolls off the tongue..

thank you for joining the chase j. here's hoping that all your getaways are quick ... :)
Funny, but as I was reading this one, Bonnie and Clyde came to mind. Then, a few lines before the end, I see "Like Bonnie and Clyde." Well, B&C did indeed stage a jailbreak, but their ends were much more sorry than those of the couple in this work. Who knows, these folks might get early release for good behavior.
