Lumberyard

A Poem by Pete

If you are a seer, whenever you meet a man you will see all that he owns, ay, and much that he pretends to disown, behind him. - Thoreau

Not saying that I'm a hypocrite.
Okay, must just a little bit.
Everyone had a 20/20 speck.
Just as you would expect.
That I saw clearly.
But I couldn't see the forest for the trees.
It kept moving in the blinding breeze.
Casualty of my own living lie.
Perhaps it was because I had a lumberyard ...
... stacked up a mile high ...
... in my own eye ...

Author's Note

Pete
"How long shall we sit in our porticoes practising idle and musty virtues, which any work would make impertinent? As if one were tobegin the day with long-suffering, and hire a man to hoe his potatoes; and in the afternoon go forth to practise Christian meekness and charity with goodness aforethought!" - Thoreau
