Brilliant Disguise

Brilliant Disguise

Two-faced and twisted.
Like a blue-chip stock delisted.
Time was when a man knew who his friends were.
Sleeping with one eye open and still able to rest assured.
There used to be honor amongst thieves.
Trees held fast to the creed of their fallen leaves.
Men shook hands whilst they thrust knives into each others back.
A treasonous but expected sneak attack.
Now there isn't even that.
I guess it's time to take my hat.
I'll have to sleep, keeping open both eyes.
As my lies do battle with their lies and I have to don yet another ...
... brilliant disguise ...

Author's Note

Pete
"Absolutely speaking, Do unto others as you would that they should do unto you is by no means a golden rule, but the best of current silver. An honest man would have but little occasion for it. It is golden not to have any rule at all in such a case." - Thoreau

You are so right Pete, there was a code and now there isn't and the widespread violence is sickening. I am appalled particularly at crimes against vulnerable people. Old ladies and old men, people with disabilities who are targeted because they are easy victims. The level of violence is horrific and you wonder what sort of savages are out there. Your lines, written so well are a reminder that we all have to watch our backs. Great read a d very topical at the moment.

"Trees held fast to the creed of their fallen leaves." love this.

Lies have always been the way of leaders; a worldwide totalitarian regime
is close at hand. This type of mindset brings with it violence.

Keep Pushing! Keep Loving!

no codes, no honor...just lies, hatred and senseless killings...no rhyme or reason...at least at one time...even the violence seemed to make a little sense.

Where there was a code, none exists these days. This is a great social comment, and makes the truth a little hard to swallow. Loved it!!!
