SoliloquyA Poem by PeteIn their starched white robes. Temple priests rehearse their lines across the globe. Old Bill said that all the world's a stage and we are merely actors. Performers and benefactors. I spoke my good-time monologue to a packed house. When things went bad, a soliloquy to a lonely mouse. I said the words but didn't get the meaning. On my knees begging and pleading. I couldn't stay the course. When rough seas came against me with a centrifugal force. We learn our lessons. Standing in line at crowded delicatessens. Tasting salty tranquility. Sighing humility. Oh what a tangled web we weave ... ... when Heaven's riches and faith take leave ... © 2019 Pete |
