Take It From The Top

Take It From The Top

A Poem by Pete
"

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. - Thoreau

Every day.
For years.
Without looming fears.
Whilst things were seemingly going great in my life.
I would pass by this place that was surrounded by a wall.
I was too busy and too happy, so I never took the time to stop and see what lay beyond.
Then my life fell apart.
Suddenly, I had all the time in the world.
But I was still afraid to look.
Things eventually got so bad that there was nothing left to do but try to see what was behind it.
So I struggled, climbed up and peeked over the top.
There were millions of eyes looking back at me, trying to see from the other side.
They had nothing else to do either but stop, look and see what life had taken.
Not wanting to be forsaken.
Both sides had a steep drop.
More precipitous as you neared the top ...

Author's Note

Pete
"Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts. God will see that you do not want society." - Thoreau
