Fade to Gray

Fade to Gray

A Poem by Pete
"

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. - Thoreau

It was too difficult choosing 'tween black and white.
Day versus night.
Wrong or right.
They didn't know whether to breathe or pray.
So they sailed away.
Going their own way.
She, down and hip.
Seducing with a twirl and a dip.
He, dapper and debonair.
Moving with just the right flair.
Both with a sashay and a sway.
Fade to gray ...

This is an outstanding posting in all ways. I admit, sometimes I only look at the words & ignore the other stuff posted (for everyone, not just you . . . I'm only about the words). But I love your art & song too. This is several light years beyond most of your writing for me. While I get tangled up in my own word crafting quite often, I love how you are a little obsessive when you get the vibe for alliteration or rhyme or whatever. This poem feels the most balanced of anything I've read of yours. I see the well-crafted lines, but what really stands center stage is the message. This message is brilliantly stated. Pardon my sketchiness at the cafe & thanks for RR'ing me becuz I wouldn't have wanted to miss this. I kinda remember you mentioning that you wrote a poem in response to my poem about flamenco dancer (bad memory) . . . and I guess this might be it. If so, I'm very honored that reading my poem might have precipitated THIS! WOW! That's quite a compliment to me! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Indeed life is discordant and often cruel and follows paths predestined by fate rather than sense and love. Often communication and understanding and shared constructs are the key. You open the debate.
