DerivativeA Poem by PeteIf I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life. - ThoreauI want to cross forbidden lines. Ignoring upside down traffic signs. Breaching borders. Disobeying orders. Scaling walls. Roaming Heaven's hallowed halls. Going where their Hell doesn't want me to go. Knowing what they don't want me to know. Swallowing swords and eating fire. Doing whatever hearts desire. Against the grain. Swimming in the rain. Bare and bold. Truth be told. Not just another cog in the wheel. Unwilling to compromise or cut a deal. My nightlight will be the moon's glow. Because the promise of life says so. I'll even leave earth. In a sort of innocent rebirth. I'll take along some reverence and love for a snack. Stopping to rest at Thoreau's Walden shack. Taking a page from his book. Turning my head for one last look. I'll bring along some rosary beads. To meet all of my needs. Don't just read my words. Soar with the birds. Cross-eyed and painless. Promoted with the dead medals of the brainless.
