The Verdict

The Verdict

A Poem by Pete

I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself. - Thoreau

Image result for morning frost on a windshield melting in sun

Night stole away.
Just to abscond with its livid way.
Not wanting black or white but gray.
So it pled its case with day.
With the usual, argumentative sway.
Two relentless lawyers gone astray.
Ice crystals packed the courtroom.
In a class action of impending doom.
After a fortnight of divine deliberation, Mother Nature's decision finally came back.
With creation's unequivocal gavel smack.
Like morning frost on a windshield.
 The verdict signed and sealed.
Delivered from the balcony overlooking the moon's innocent, courtroom show.
Not guilty ...
... you are free to glow ...

Author's Note

Pete
“If the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal- that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself. The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. We easily come to doubt if they exist. We soon forget them. They are the highest reality. Perhaps the facts most astounding and most real are never communicated by man to man. The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.” - Thoreau
