What men call social virtues, good fellowship, is commonly but the virtue of pigs in a litter, which lie close together to keep each other warm. - Thoreau
The past participle of paranoid pleasantries walks a thin line.
Aged in Satan's cellar like a fine French wine.
Fist-bumping and high-fiving.
Back-flipping and high-diving.
Love talks but reality walks.
Actions speak louder than meaningless words.
Loyalty has taken flight like a flock of Hitchcock's birds.
All is not well in the kingdom.
Euphoria was planted but anger and depression grows.
Even God knows.
Doors swing open widely, only to be closed again.
Reason makes a command appearance every now and then.
A promise speaks but quickly turns into another lie.
Hiding out where old things go to quietly die.
The not-so-mighty dollar is shaking things to the core.
Everyone's doing what's best for themselves but who's minding the store?
Logic is buried at life's beach with a shovel and a pail.
Truth is incarcerated in money's inescapable jail.
Restless angels walk to and fro, frequently stopping to spit.
Taking signals from the coach behind a worn catcher's mitt.
Smart phones aren't really as smart as everyone seems
to think.
All they do is leave us on an incommunicado brink.
Icicles form in season's thrill and chill but very soon will melt.
Like luscious Heaven spent.
Action verbs cling and clang.
Back and forth like a boomerang.
Nourished like a dizzy monkey in outer space.
A royal straight flush without the all important ace.
Going out with a whimper and not the much desired bang.
'Actions speak louder than meaningless words. - Loyalty has taken flight like a flock of Hitchcock's birds. - All is not well in the kingdom. - Eurphoria was planted but anger and depression grows. - Even God knows.'
Your words in this post sweep across the mind with real power, Pete! Your meter, your intensity, the phrasing is superb! Can't understand how people can pop in and not stay to read your thoughts and then, think for themselves. We all need to read, delve and enhance our opinions with a nudge or few from writers like you. Seems that the meter in this is an incessant play of drums, yet still clearly whisper, 'See.' . Perhaps?

I will, rarely go wrong with my grub. By the way - Bowie forever!
Having read the title, I didn't quite know what to expect. I laughed when I saw the monkey, then somewhere after your opening line, my jaw began to drop. What a clever wordsmith you are, executing with precision, rhyme, and incomparable flair. But then again, that's you!

Lol. thanks for blasting off and going into orbit on this one. my best to you as always ... :)
Your impeccable rhyming is delightful, as usual you writing is picture of perfection.
That feeling; the world In general seem to be going down the hill and no one cares, bothers us all some more so than others, still ... "Restless angles walk to and fro, frequently stopping to spit". That is a very unangelic behavior! I believe this world still has hope and still functions properly to some extent because of angles in the form of humans toil among us. I am glad Emmajoy read requested me this poem. It is always a great pleasure reading your wonderful writings, Pete.

I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
