So Long Eden, so LongA Poem by PeteThere are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. - ThoreauUnwanted knowledge is born as the last remnant of inhibition. An unhappy ending to a failed, universal mission. Once pure hands reach up to pluck taunting desire. Cursed by the urging of a sanctimonious serpent of fire. An out-and-out, bold-faced liar. Forbidden fruit leaves a bitter taste. Life apart from love, such a human waste. It's hard to be moral in an immoral world. Where innocence droops, like a flag with no breeze to render it unfurled. Kindness can be mistaken for weakness. Inclination pins goodness in a wrestling bout of bleakness. Knives cut both ways, depending on how their wielded. All roads lead to heaven or hell depending on how the traffic is yielded. Unheard confessions don't erase a wrong. Don't make amends for an off-key song. So long Eden ... ... so long ... © 2019 PeteAuthor's Note
