Something's MissingA Poem by PeteMost men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them. - ThoreauAt night in my bed. Lost inside my head. You're not there. Something's missing. In daytime when I wander. Returning to my empty room. You're not there. Something's missing. When I'm singing in the car. You're not there to finish the verse. Not sitting next to me as my copilot. Something's missing. When I can't put one foot in front of the other. You're spring no longer in my step. You're not there. Something's missing. You're not here to make me laugh. To keep my home fire burning. To stop me from yearning. You're not here. Something's missing. When my heart needs refreshing. I can't dive into the deep pools of your eyes. When my soul needs a jump-start. When I need the waters to part. You're not here. Something's missing. When I cry out at the midnight hour. Longing for your sultry power. Down upon my knees when I pray. In this lonely, wretched world where I stay. You're not here. When clouds block the moon and sea from kissing. Something's missing ... © 2019 PeteAuthor's Note
