The GameA Poem by PeteNobody can bring you peace but yourself. - EmersonYou can kick and scream or go along willing. Either way, the trek will be chilling. Just be careful with what you do with your heart. Keep playing the part. Wear it on your sleeve. If that's what you believe. Court is held by a hyena with a hernia. Spun with the silk of blessed saturnia. A hop, skimp and jump from local pergatory. We live our own bold, telling story. Crawling like a pensive turtle through elusive time. Motioning lost words like a crippled mime. Washed up on the beach of infinity. Corked in a bottle of the blessed Trinity. Consecrate and desecrate sound strangely alike. Do what you will and think what you might. The dentist always commences with, "Open wide." Religion reminds that we swallow our pride. When all's said and done, we must choose a side. In the spotlight of soliloquy. Holding steadfast unequivocally. Shielding us from life's cruel harm. With faith 'round our necks like a worn, swaying charm. Etched in stone or drawn upon sand. An S.O.S. strikes up the band. Like rearranging deck chairs on the opulent Titanic. Saving humanity from a desperate panic. They only came to show off their clothes. And adorn you lavishly with their radical prose. Held in heaven's unwanted captivity. Born in earth's trembling nativity. You can climb to the top of Everest and shout your name. Or slither in Eden, they're both oddly the same. Tiptoeing through tulips. Sipping mint juleps. Jitterbugging in Hell. Casting a spell. No ifs and buts, remember to love. When push comes to shove. Don't let life ensnare you in wayward traps. Nor lightning entrance with debilitating zaps. It matters not who laughs at a funeral. Only that they came. Hold your head high or hang it in shame. It's all just a flagrant travesty. Of life's grand game ... © 2019 PeteAuthor's Note
