Skimming Stones

When sin first attacked me in the womb,
the almighty christened me in salvation's cocoon.
When the breeze of doubt swirled,
my faith was hurled.
When the hurricane of lies blew,
I thought I was all through.
When adversity stranded me in the desert without a canteen,
it rained down manna from heaven upon the grim scene.
When my prayers were unfurled,
I was already a prisoner in the third world.
When the cannibal of lament came to ring my doorbell,
I had already gone sightseeing in fiery Hell.
When the nuclear winter of my holocaust came knocking,
David's Psalm's were already stalking.
By the time despair came to pluck my bones,
I was at summer's pond ...
... skimming stones ...

I don't normally go for a "fire & brimstone" version of faith, but as far as the writing goes, your rhyme & rhythm feel well-balanced & compelling in a deliberate way, which harmonizes with this message. I agree that sometimes it takes hard times to really shock us into a more fervent version of how we approach our faith and it feels like your poem takes this idea a few extra miles to hammer on the way this can go & feel (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
