There Are No Speed Limits in HeavenA Poem by Pete“Heaven might be defined as the place which men avoid.” - ThoreauFlying high like Gabriel's immortal ministry. Doing what's right. Racing in divinity's light. Breakdown lane of Hell's plight. Wanting ever more. Like a pebble on Walden's golden shore. Knocking on Thoreau's cabin door. A blind man waiting at the gate. Trying to see straight. Despite life's fate. Walking the line. Awaiting a sign. In calamity's recession. At time's confession. No one to blame but me. In the midst of Noah's parted sea. Attacked by Daniel's feral, carnivorous lion. Living the life of Monty Python's Brian. Plagued by Peter's sinking, bi-polar doubt. Thirsting like an Egyptian drought. My life recedes. My soul concedes. My spirit fails. Driving relentlessly like molten larva's entrails. Looking back in a rearview mirror with grief. His truth only as real as my belief. The skin of fate's circumcision attests. I am nevertheless blessed with his best. Stop and go on life's highway. Off the beaten path of Beelzebub's byway. Like the holding captivity of Jonah's whale. The Holy Grail will never fail. No time like hurried promise's bread unleavened. There are no speed limits in Heaven ... © 2018 PeteAuthor's Note
