Conundrum

Conundrum

A Poem by Pete
"

"How does it become a man to behave towards the American government today? I answer, that he cannot without disgrace be associated with it." - Thoreau

Author's Note

Pete
“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things.” - Thoreau

"Ah, Thoreau--one of my favorites, and that is certainly a favorite quote.
The American government has become too corrupt to survive much longer. The desperation is spreading. That's one of the reasons that I am a Socialist.
Really cool write, Pete--and a wonderful 'Author's Note'.

Love it Pete Succinct and yes raises doubts on many planes of politics. The only difference these days between organised crime and the government is that one is legalised!

There is so much wisdom in your poem, Pete. And it emits such a calming effect, like a spell of meditation. Your author's note elaborates your inspiration. I love the the pictures too.
