VerdictA Poem by Pete"We do not live by justice, but by grace." - ThoreauIf I were a genius, I'd know it all. If I were a fortune-teller, I'd stare into a crystal ball. If I were a flag, I'd hang from a pole. If I were a w***e, I'd sell my soul. Like a grandfather clock, I chime the hour. Like a Medieval prisoner, I wait, locked in a castle tower. Like a wayward drummer, I strike a cymbal. Like a mindful tailor, a don a thimble. Like the wind, I come and go. Like the tide, I ebb and flow. Like the rain I cry and fall. A lone wolf howling his call. Like a detective, I want the facts. Like an apostle, I perform the acts. If only I could go back in time. Aging like a fine, priceless wine. If I were a Bible, I'd hold the word. If I had wings, I'd fly like a bird. If I were a ladder, I'd be missing a rung. If I were a jury, I'd be deadlocked and hung. Like lightning, I hold unharnessed power. Like a patient gardener, I grow a prized flower. Like a cloud, I create a storm. Like a locust, I join the swarm. Like thunder, I rumble loud. Like the ages, I stand up proud. Looking at the sun, I can't help but squint. My maker gives me only a hint. Like a comet, I crash and burn. My essence gasping to churn and still learn. Like a celebration, I dance and revel. Like a sin, I travel with the devil. Like a mountain, I reach up for the sky. Like a madman, I ask bold, undeniable, unequivocal, robed truth ... ... why? ... © 2018 PeteAuthor's Note
