Catch-22A Poem by Pete“Thus men will lie on their backs, talking about the fall of man, and never make an effort to get up.”Matches burn and turned pages wither. Undesired truths come hither. The sea wrestles with the shore. Each wanting more. Autumn leaves resist the will of trees. Twirling their bold colors in the breeze. Ever-willing to please. Not wanting to leave. Snow refuses to melt. Rebelling against the hand it was dealt. Creation gasps for air. In a quest for what's fair. Night argues with day. Drawing straws over which has the right to stay. The hawk's eyes fixate on its prey. To make it through another day. The rich man and poor man hold each other in contempt. With a prowess neither ever dreamt. Tears fall in defiance of soul. Time extracts its precious toll. Damned if I do and damned if I don't. So, I simply won't. Heaven and Hell fight over you. Not knowing quite what to do.
