FoundationsA Poem by Pete“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” - ThoreauUnmasked and exposed. Barren and bare. Reaching up to heaven. Rubbing sticks together for eternity. Lost in the desert. Alone. Canteen empty. Standing in the presence of the almighty. Staring into his eyes. The great abyss. Gone amiss. Fleeing from day and screaming at night. Haggling with the horizon. Peering off into the distance. For signs of water and life. An oasis. A word. Anything. My world has been torn down. Flipped around. Rocked to the core. It's very foundation shaken and stirred. Stripped, brick by brick. With two black eyes. In a coma on life support. My ego now standing behind me. Like an enigmatic enema. A cathartic chagrin. Clinging to truth. Clutching essence. Tried and convicted. Sentenced and served. Serenity scorched. We don't know who we are until we walk through the fire. Barefoot on hot coals. Now, finally ... ... something lasting can be built ... © 2018 PeteAuthor's Note
