I RememberA Poem by Pete"What men call social virtues, good fellowship, is commonly but the virtue of pigs in a litter, which lie close together to keep each other warm." - ThoreauI remember. When I was young. Innocent. Full of dreams. Drank faith from crystal streams. I remember. When I still believed. Skipped and didn't walk. Thought and didn't talk. I remember. When I was a boy and not yet a man. Had a plan. Not subjugated. I remember. When a word was bond. Not a magic wand. When loyalty meant something and didn't speak with a forked tongue. I could still see. Could look in the mirror and there was someone looking back at me. I remember. Before the world sunk its crooked, evil fangs into me. Poisoning my soul. When life was true. I still had you. I remember. When I cared. Wasn't scared. I remember. When I tried. The serpent lied. When I cried. Because I wanted to. Not had to. Yes, I remember. What I sought ... ... before I forgot ... © 2018 PeteAuthor's Note
